Friday 23rd September 2011 at 6.30pm
The exhibition will continue until Friday October 7th 2011
Opening hours: Monday to Thursday 10am – 7pm / Friday 10am - 5pm
The United Nations has nominated 2011 as The
International Year for Chemistry. I t has been
so designated to promote greater understanding
of the World and the Universe, with particular
emphasis on the p rovision of food, medicine,
fuel, manufactures and other products. It also
aims to raise a wareness regarding the care of
the environment, and economic development.
Chemistry has always been fundamental to the
production of art works from plastic to resin,
from articial a nd synthetic bres to paint and
ink.
The exhibition will have its ofcial opening on
Dublin Culture Night 2011. It will offer the visitor
an opportunity to re¸ect on the meaning and
composition of art works. Twelve works of art,
signed by six different artists (Federico Basso,
Alessandro Busci, Luca Castonato, Mauro Mariani,
Ludmilla Radchenko and Mario Washington)
are representative of the effective dialogue now
taking place at all stages during the production
of any work of art, ranging from the communicative
aspect of the project, to the techniques and
materials used together with the technology
involved. From analogue to digital, contemporary
photography has adopted a new function
linking the c onceptual process to different
modes of expression.
For the viewer there is a moment where the
distinction between the art work and the material,
between the work and its frame or setting,
melt away, and everything blends into a single
entity.
Ludmilla Radschenko uses special resins to
treat images of Mario Washington, giving vent to
her own emotions expressed in pop language.
Alessandro Busci concentrates on the representation
of landscape in a dramatic way which is not
hostile. Landscapes are printed on Poliepo 505,
where industrial architecture and urban expansion
happily co-exist. His work contains elements
which a re both old and contemporary. Mario
Washington discovers a world full of colour and
forms, and explores their expressive possibilities.
He is curious and watchful, attracted both by
harmony and irregularity. Federico Basso's
subtle and sharply ironic style is recognised by
all, whether expressed in photographic form
(printed directly on Pluriball) or on the stage of
"Zelig". Every element is part of the narrative, and
is fed both by illusion and reality, by the „gurative
and the metaphorical. Luca Casonato chooses
as his subject Venice in Macoa, (one of three
existing in the world, the others being Venice,
Italy, and Venetian in Las Vegas). The result is an
interesting investigative work printed on Flexint
Biolux aimed at understanding the in‰uence and
the architectural heritage of the city of the lagoon.
Mauro Mariani considers water, a vital element,
and is captivated by its forms and memories.
Printed on Flexint Biolux his images reveal an
unexpected harmony.
